Halloween: Treat Yourselves Even During COVID

Halloween is still upon us, with COVID or without. Unfortunately, it looks like Halloween 2020 is going to be a bit different than it has been in the past. But that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of it! In today’s blog, we will look at a few ways you can still celebrate Halloween with your family and even office during COVID-19.

Options for a COVID-Safe Halloween 2020

Set up a Candy Graveyard

This is an awesome way to get your yard decked out for Halloween and give the kids a way to social distance while trick-or-treating right in your front yard! Set up fake tombstones in your yard, add in some spider webs and a fog machine if you want to get really spooky, and put some prizes and candy next to each tombstone. One way to set up the game is to have each kid enter the graveyard one at a time and package up candy and prizes into their individual treat bags to maintain safety.

Host Zoom Costume Parties and Pumpkin-Carving Contests

This is an awesome way to still get excited about dressing up and showing off your awesome costume. Gather friends, family, and maybe even office coworkers and set up a zoom meeting with everyone to show off your best costume. You could even make it a Halloween-themed dance party to show your costumes best moves. Create a spooky playlist and have everyone show their costumes off one-by-one.

Another variation could be to virtually carve pumpkins together, or if you have enough space, gather remotely and social distance while you all carve pumpkins and cook pumpkin seeds. At the end of the costume zoom and pumpkin carving, announce the winners and award prizes to the best costume and best pumpkin carver.

Attend a Trunk-or-Treat

Trunk-or-treating has been around for years but it seems to be a trend that is especially buzzing this year since it meets the socially distant trick-or-treating guidelines. Trunk-or-Treating is an organized event that is usually held in a school or church parking lot. Decorated cars or trucks are parked so that kids will go from car to car trick-or-treating out of the trunks of each car. This doesn’t have to be set up in a school or church parking lot, you can do this in your neighborhood too with each neighbor setting up trunk displays in their driveways or along the street in front of their house for neighborhood children to go around and safely trick-or-treat out of each trunk. You can set up hand sanitizer stations around the parking lot or neighborhood to ensure that everyone is sanitized before going around to each car.

Set up a Trick-or-Treat Driveway Table

With COVID-19, we might have to ditch the traditional communal Halloween candy bowl. But, there’s a safer way that you can give out candy and not ruin the trick-or-treating fun for all the kids. Set up a decorated table or booth in your front yard or driveway where you can hand out individual bags or cups of candy. This keeps contact to a minimum while also still showcasing decorations and giving the kids the trick-or-treating fun. Get on Pinterest and look up some fun ways you can decorate your trick-or-treat table.

These are only a few ways to maintain the Halloween spirit while keeping you and your kids safe while trick-or-treating this year. If you want to check out more ways to get you and the family in the Halloween spirit this year, check out this blog for further ideas.
